CloudVeneto is an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platform but provides also higher level services tailored to serve scientific communities.
Our platform, running the OpenStack software (currently on the Yoga version), leverages various open-source tools and technologies. All these tools are used to provide compute and storage services, higher-level services, deployment automation tools, monitoring and accounting services, security monitoring and incident handling procedures.
The physical infrastructure is distributed between the Padova data center (shared between INFN Padova and the Physics department of University of Padova) and the data center hosted at INFN Legnaro National Laboratories. These two data centers 10 km far awat are seamlessly connected via a dedicated optical network link.
CloudVeneto’s computing infrastructure leverages multiple hypervisors, with several servers also equipped with GPU accelerators of various models, effectively supporting diverse computational workloads.
All services are deployed with a strong emphasis on high availability and fault tolerance, ensuring continuous, reliable performance. The unified Ceph-based storage system further offers both block and object storage to seamlessly accommodate a wide range of use cases.
CloudVeneto is also tightly integrated with the local LNL-Padova WLCG Tier2 infrastructure, significantly boosting its capabilities for scientific and research applications.
The hardware resources have undergone continuous expansion and renewal over the years.
